“The Shining” trailer gives away nothing but tells everything. The music is absolutely ominous. The image holds as the music builds to its crescendo blood bath. What’s not to love about this trailer? And it’s even more interesting looking at this trailer in retrospect. Very few trailers today would dare do something this simple and elegant. That’s what makes it stand out. You HAVE to watch this movie after seeing this trailer. Even by today’s standards. It holds up. And holds up well at that. Modern day trailers could learn a lesson from this one. As they say, the monster is never as scary as the your imagination of what the monster might be. In this case, the trailer proves the case. And once more, the movie delivers on its promise. But that’s what makes both this trailer, and the movie, cinematic history.
